Last week's action!

Surrey Ladies Hockey League - Division 7

Horley L1 2 - 3 Reigate Priory 3's

This top of the table clash promised to be a tough game and it certainly delivered. Reigate dominated the first half with Horley struggling to keep possesion of the ball.

Reigate's domination led to plenty of chances from open play and short corners of which they converted two, despite some brave and resolute Horley defence and also some good saves from debutant keeper Victoria Coote.

Half time saw some positive talk and Tangfastics and the game turned on its head. Horley were energised and suddenly having chances of their own. Shortly after having a goal disallowed, Horley almost immediately struck again, this time legitamately through Lottie Edwards. A second swiftly followed from Jackie Killick, 2 -2 and Horley were level.

Reigate regained their composure and through a counter attack, saw there forwards through on goal and able to slide home to retake the lead. Horley fought hard for an equaliser but despite lots of effort and tired legs to show for it, were unable to prevail.

MoM went to debutant Victoria Coote who only played hockey for the first time 3 weeks ago!

Men's South League - Surrey Division 2

Horley M1s 4 - 2 Bank of England 1's

Horley produced a mint performance to take the spoils against Bank of England at Ifield.

Captain Liam Bashford donned the pads instead of taking his usual right back berth and put in stellar performance throughout the game that matched most of what Banks forwards could offer pound for pound, making several great saves.

Relying on Liam's saves was no guarantee of success though and after going 1-0 down, Stephen Grout equalised for Horley from some nice play. Bank continued to have chances and grabbed another goal, only for Ollie Spiers to equalize for Horley again. A real end to end match!

Horley were determined not to concede again, and their fighting spirit was demonstrated in some tough tackling although Josh Cooper went slightly too far and picked up a yellow card.

Ollie Spiers continued his fine form and raided Bank's "D", and helped himself to 2 more goals and a rather lovely hattrick. The last in particular was a contender for goal of the season, due to the aerial assist from Jochem Birrell-Gray. Bank seemed to lose interest in the face of a 4-2 scoreline and that's the way it finished.

Great team effort and result for Horley

Men's Surrey Open League Division 3

Bank of England 3's 2 - 2 Horley M2's

Horley travelled to Bank, hoping to continue the seasons good performances so far. Bank provided a hard test indeed, Matt Coles in goal had to save multiple 1v1s and Bill Cooper also formed part of a resolute defence with an amazing goalline clearance.

That combination of steely back to the wall defending, and goal machine James Faires (x2) helped Horley perform a smash and grab for well earned point.

Men's Surrey Open League Division 5

Addiscombe Herons 1 - 3 Horley M3s

Horley were delighted to get their first win of the season following two consecutive 5-3 losses. Goals from Peter Bradby, Michael Whitmore and Pete Hiliar gave Horley a deserved win.

Jordan Harders continues to get better every week with a solid performance and Jacob Hodges took home MOM

Horley Hawks (Girls U12s)

After voting on a new name, "The Horley Hawks", the U12 girls team had a successful tournament on Sunday. Winning 2 games and losing 2, and playing with a new formation, the team are gelling well and playing some fantastic hockey!

Horley Griffins (Boys U12s)

Hosting their first ever home tournament, the Griffins played some great hockey, winning 3-2 against East Grinstead and then a late loss to Kenley after a well fought match. There were some great moments and the team played really well together for so early in the season!
