What has been happening in and around the club over the summer break.

Hopefully everyone has enjoyed their summer break and you are probably shaking with excitement to get started with the new season of hockey for 2015/16 (I know I am!). Before we get started on pre-season preparations though, let's take a moment to see whats been happening over the summer:

Back to Hockey
Our third year of 'Back to Hockey' was more successful than ever, with higher numbers of new players in attendance. Throughout May sessions were held every Saturday at ICC with coaching from Peter Bradby, Josh Cooper, Lauren Dunstan, Richard Ledwich, Amy Matthews and Maria Weatherstone. Thank to you everyone that provided coaching support and of course massive thanks to everyone who attended the sessions, we hope you will continue to be a part of our club for the forseeable future.

Reigate & Banstead Surrey Youth Games Squad
Showing that we are a club for our community, Mike Ledwich and His daughter, Helen Ledwich, led a male and female team to the Surrey Youth Games for Reigate & Banstead in June. This had followed after two months of coaching sessions held at ST. Bedes School (Redhill) from Horley Hockey Coaches Peter Bradby, Josh Cooper, Lauren Dunstan, Helen Ledwich and Mike Ledwich. Great work form everyone involved.

Winners 'Back to Hockey' Tournament
The first ever 'Back to Hockey' tournament was held at East Grinstread Hockey club and Horley were crowned as champions in its debut year. A great day and achievement for the club that you can read about further on the England Hockey website.

Celebrating Qualifications
Head Coach, Peter Bradby, has qualified as a Level two hockey coach over the summer and wishes to thank everybody that attended his assessment session in May.

Club Matches
It can be difficult to get games over the summer, so this year we held a couple of Club matches at ICC which saw two mixed sides, made up from our M1s,M2s and L1s, pitted against each other. Although only friendly matches, there has been some consideration for running a more competitive club match competition next year, so keep your eyes peeled.

Trojan 7s Mixed Tournament
On August 15th, we sent a mixed team of ten players to enjoy a day out in the sunshine of Southampton for the Trojans Mixed 7s tournament. Although our Horley team finished last, they played some superb hockey and faced up against a couple National Prem ladies players! Well done to everyone involved and to Josh Cooper for organising.
