Hockey Chairman, James Faires, provides his report on the 2016/17 season

The Club welcomed a record number of new players to the club over the summer
- James faires

The performances of all teams this season has exceeded expectations with all 3 teams pushing for promotion for most of the season. The Hockey Club also celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a hugely successful Dinner Dance in November, thanks to the amazing organisational skills of Judith Shuttleworth, with nearly 100 current and former players attending.

The team captains Maria Weatherstone, Josh Cooper and Jon Thompson have worked relentlessly to drive the teams performances all season while balancing the needs to rotate a welcome influx of new players. My thanks also go to the amazing support of Louise Gormley for overcoming the challenges of booking all team fixtures/training and arranging umpires, Pete Bradby and Cheryl Bosman for arranging high quality coaching sessions for a record number of attending players, Judith Shuttleworth for keeping the budgets in shape as Treasurer and taking on the Welfare Officer role from Lauren Dunstan and last but not least Jackie Killick for her support in joining the HCHC Management Committee and umpires Chris Stevens and Paul Moorey.

With the kind support of our new sponsor M E Construct the Hockey Club has been able to invest in new playing shirts and training equipment. And the Club welcomed a record number of new players to the club over the summer including Dave Skingley, Nick Jones, Sam Durkin, Rob Farrington, Rob Fielder, Ollie Loader, Daniel Thompson, Teresa Roberts, Lizzie Scanlan, Alicia Parker, Alice Stevens, Anna Cook and Dominique Faires many of whom playing regularly for their teams. And our Junior numbers have also doubled this season with more than 20 regularly attending training thanks to the support and drive of new coaches Harrie Carnochan and Natascha Burns.

The Club continue to focus on opportunities to bring an artificial pitch to Horley which would help sustain the club and increase participation in the local community with discussions ongoing with key stakeholders and potential funders.
