AGM Reminder
This year the hockey section AGM will take place on a weekday (Tuesday 18th April starting at 8pm at Horley Cricket and Hockey Club) due to the combination of the extended season and Easter holidays. Please can you confirm attendance to your captain’s and/or myself to help with planning for this important evening in the Horley Hockey Club calendar. For those of you that haven't attended before please come along to help celebrate a successful season! And as an additional incentive - pizza will be provided before the meeting – planned for about 7.45pm so please arrive early if you can.

I can also confirm that the main club (Horley Cricket and Hockey Club) AGM will be taking place on Wednesday 26th April at 7.30pm - again please attend if you can to help us strengthen our links with the other sections of the club and ensure we can be well represented on the Management Committee this coming year.

Looking Back at a Very Successful Season!
The performances of all teams this season have far exceeded expectations with all 3 teams pushing for promotion this season. The Hockey Club also celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a hugely successful Dinner Dance in November, thanks to the amazing organisational skills of Judith Shuttleworth, with nearly 100 current and former players attending.

The team captains Maria Weatherstone, Josh Cooper and Jon Thompson have worked relentlessly to drive the teams performances all season while balancing the needs to rotate a welcome influx of new players. My thanks also go to the amazing support of Louise Gormley for overcoming the challenges of booking all team fixtures/training and arranging umpires, Pete Bradby and Cheryl Bosman for arranging high quality coaching sessions for a record number of attending players, Natascha Burns and Harrie Carnochan for running training for our growing colts section, Judith Shuttleworth for keeping the budgets in shape as Treasurer and taking on the Welfare Officer role from Lauren Dunstan and last but not least Jackie Killick for her support in joining the HCHC Management Committee and regular umpires Chris Stevens, Mike Hughes and Paul Moorey for officiating come rain or shine. And with the kind support of our new sponsor M E Construct (Adeel!) the Hockey Club has been able to invest in new training equipment and subsidise playing shirts this season.

Management Committee and Volunteer Roles
As per the attached AGM agenda we have both new and existing positions which we will need to fill to help to sustain the club going forward and we would also love to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping out informally with other activities e.g. arranging social events, writing match reports, social media, assisting with coaching/umpiring, updating club policies / procedures, helping build links with local schools and organisations. It is only with your help and support that we can continue to ensure the club thrives – please speak to either a member of the management committee or myself if you have any queries.

A Warm Welcome to our New Members
The Club welcomed a record number of new players to the club over the Summer/Autumn including Dave Skingley, Nick Jones, Sam Durkin, Rob Farrington, Atif Nawaz, Rob Fielder, Ollie Loader, Daniel Thompson, Andy Ho, Teresa Roberts, Lizzie Scanlan, Alicia Parker, Alice Stevens, Anna Cook and Dominique Faires many of whom playing regularly for their teams. And our Junior numbers have also doubled this season with more than 20 regularly attending training thanks to the support and drive of new coaches Harrie and Natascha together with assistance of Pete. In addition to the new FAQ section on the website the Management Committee are looking at creating a Welcome Pack to provide all the information that new members might need.

2017/18 Season – New Team and Training Plans
As per the attached agenda the growth in player numbers at the club has enabled us to formally approach the Surrey Ladies’ and Men’s hockey leagues to request entry for a Ladies 2nd X1 and Men’s 3rd XI - this is a great opportunity for us to grow the club, provides better opportunities for members to play regularly at their optimum level within the club and enable us to attract even more new members. We also plan to run Back to Hockey sessions this Summer to further increase our membership – please encourage family, friends and work colleagues to give hockey a try - we will circulate the details of Back to Hockey when details are finalised - watch this space! With the welcome growth in attendance at training this season combined with the regular presence of footballers training on Tuesday nights it has become apparent that we ideally need more space at training - consequently the Club are in discussions with ICC about increasing the space we book for training. The Management Committee are also looking at creating an ambitious new Club Development Plan to draw together all the elements we need to sustain the clubs growth into the future with the aim that this will be led by the new Club Development Coordinator role (see attached role descriptions - please speak to me if you might be interested in any of the new positions).

New Pitch and Clubhouse Developments
The Club also continue to focus on opportunities to bring an artificial pitch to Horley which would help sustain the club and increase participation (particularly amongst juniors) in the local community with discussions ongoing with key stakeholders and potential funders. The Cricket and Hockey Club are also making plans to refurbish the clubhouse with discussions ongoing with architects/fundraisers.

HCHC Management Committee
This season we have tripled our representation on the main Hockey and Cricket Club Management Committee (Jackie Killick, Judith Shuttleworth and myself) which ensures the voice of the hockey section is heard clearly by the main club in the decisions that affect the running of the club. Our regular attendance at club events and after games on Saturdays has been warmly welcomed by the club (in particular the Bar Committee!).

Social Activities

  • Despite the season coming to a close for this year there is still plenty going on to keep people involved with the club including:
  • British and World Marbles Championship – Good Friday – Greyhound Pub, Tinsley Green, Crawley (£30 entry per team of 6)
  • Squash – speak to Paul Moorey about the Squash Ladder / Games – about a dozen have already expressed interest/signed up.
  • Men’s 1st XI End of Season Do – Bowling / Curry and a Beer…maybe two! (date tbc – contact Josh or James)
  • Inter-club hockey matches – we normally aim to book one per month – keep an eye out for Teamer / WhatsApp/ Email and/or messages from Captains
  • Summer League – Mixed / Ladies (contact Jackie Killick or Maria Weatherstone for further details)
  • HCHC Skittles – 10th – 14 July - Horley Cricket and Hockey Club (team event)
  • Summer Pre-Season Friendlies (July – September)
  • Horley Hockey Club Golf Day - speak to Paul Moorey – further details and date tbc
  • HCHC Social Events – keep an eye out for texts, emails, WhatsApp.

Well I am sure you would agree that that's more than enough from me - I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the AGM next Tuesday when we start planning for even more success in 2017/18 - please can you confirm if you will be attending by contacting your captain or myself.
