History

Formed during the swinging 60s, when the Management Committee was approached by Alec Ferguson with a proposal to form a Hockey section within the Cricket Club and by January 1965 the first game took place.

At the start of the following season a full fixture list had been established and membership totaled thirteen including four cricketers. Although running with this minimal number of players, the team was extremely successful, notching up considerable tally of wins over the first few seasons but, of course, those were the days of non-league hockey when ( for those who can remember) games commenced with a Bully-Off and there was a Roll-In.

Horley Hockey Club has tried to retain the main ideas and aims of those founding members. The club is committed to the ideal of providing a friendly and social sports club for members of all ages and skill levels. As an offshoot of the cricket club, we still share the clubhouse which is now a warm and welcoming haven following extensive refurbishment of the bar area, and regularly shows the major sports games.

The hockey club runs two mens sides and a ladies team, all playing at various levels of the Surrey Open League. A mixed team has also recently been reformed and attends the local and not so local tournaments over the summer. Should you wish to challenge us to a friendly friendly then please get in touch.

All our home games for both mens and Ladies teams are played at Ifield Community College, Crawley Ave, Crawley, West Sussex RH11 7.
